One Korean movie appears to be causing some controversy at the moment...
...and that movie would be 은교 Eungyo...
I was a little bit curious to see what Koreans were talking about...
...so I saw 은교 on Saturday night ...
... who becomes infatuated with a high school student...
... *very original storyline indeed*...
While 은교 is supposed to be more of a philosophical story about aging (rather than a depiction of sexual longing...)
...I have to say that this movie did not feel PHILOSOPHICAL AT ALL...
I had difficulty sympathizing with the old man...
...possibly because the man who played the protagonist was an actor in his 30s...
...who has clearly had wrinkles drawn on his face to make him appear as though he may be 40 years older...
...it just doesn't look realistic enough...;
Here are the two main actors, Park Hae-il 박해일 and Kim Ko-eun 김고은 posing in a spread for Bazaar...
...this dude is clearly too young to play a 70-plus-year-old man...;
There is certainly a very big emphasis on virginity for girls in Korea...
...and I felt that virginity and youth were strong themes in the movie...
...the image of the pure, untouched 은교 acutely epitomized the ideal that many Korean men appear to desire...
This movie was poorly executed... and failed to peak or reveal anything insightful...
...the only redeeming point was that the female lead, Kim Ko-eun 김고은...
...successfully maintained a believable blank and curious expression *effortlessly*...
...while being oggled and degraded by the two lead male characters throughout the duration of the film...
