I really like diplomats.
They love driving around in those black-tinted-window cars looking like they actually really care about the policies of their country...
I'm actually not that cynical...
...but I stumbled across the most amazing looking Kathmandu-raised Nepalese diplomat yesterday...
Shail Upadhya is a retired UN diplomat from Nepal who has a really unusual taste in suits...
... at least...
...for someone involved in international politics.
While watching the documentary Bill Cunningham New York yesterday...(a film about the original street-fashion photographer)...
I was quite enchanted...
...with Shail... (he was a popular subject for Cunningham's street style shots...)
... Shail introduced his wardrobe...including a suit he made out of his old sofa...!!
I don't know what is going down on the streets of Kathmandu these days...
...but I have an inkling that the average Nepalese citizens are not looking exactly like this guy...

What I do know...
...is that diplomats are usually very dry, starched people...
...so it's really unusual to see an Asian diplomat bucking the trend...
